When
the Michigan State Capitol underwent its first major restoration
in over 100 years, Wigen Tincknell Meyer was named the Implementing
Architect for restoration of the House Chamber, all House offices,
upper corridors and rotunda. The work involved returning the Capitol
to its original grandeur while incorporating modern-day functional
needs and building code requirements. The restoration integrated
technology for computer networking, phones, voting systems, television
connections for telecasting Chamber functions and multimedia presentation
systems. Current codes were met by providing sufficient plumbing
facilities, safety equipment and handicapped accessibility. Air
conditioning was also discreetly integrated into the historic architecture.
